The Joint Commission, founded in 1951, is an independent organization and not-for-profit that has developed and refined standards and guidelines for high quality, safe, and comprehensive mental health, rehabilitation, and substance abuse services and facilities. TJC’s accreditation is among the most challenging and prestigious standards to meet in the field of rehabilitation and mental health. The TJC has accredited/certified over 21,000 health care organizations/programs, over 3000 of which are behavioral health organizations.
